Dragon's Pick - Jaguars Vs Chiefs

Jaguars Vs Chiefs
1:00pm EST
Arrowhead Stadium
Sunday, December 30, 2006

Something I've been wanting to do all season is a weekly pick of a big game and my personal breakdown and thoughts on that game. Being that this is the last week of the regular season, it's a little late, but I'm still going to lay this one out, and look to next years season to make this a regular weekly post along with all my picks. So here it goes.

Jacksonville enters into this final game on the outside looking in for a wild card spot. They desperately need the win to gain even a glimmer of hope in the post season, but a win isn't all they need. If the Jaguars pull off this win they would also need the N.Y. Jets to lose, the Cincinnati Bengals to lose, and the Tennessee Titans to lose. The Jaguars are currently power ranked 13th by CBS and ESPN, and 12th by Fox. Their statistical rankings offensively is 9th overall. Breaking down to 10th in total yards averaging 335.1 yards per game, 2nd in the rushing yards averaging 162.5 yards per game and 26th in passing yards averaging 172.6 yards per game. On Defense they are statictically ranked #4. Defensive ranking consisting of 2nd in total yards averaging 276.2 yards per game, 3rd in rushing yards averaging 86.0 yards per game, and 11th in passing yards averaging 190.2 yards per game.

Kansas City is also another team on the outside looking in for a wild card spot this week, needing a win to remain a candidate for a berth, but also needing assistance. In order for Kansas City to make the playoffs they would need Cincinnati Bengals to lose or tie, Denver Broncos to lose or tie, and Tennessee Titans to lose or tie as well as win thier own final game. CBS has Kansas City power ranked 12th overall, were ESPN and Fox have them ranked 14th. Thier offensive ranking under statistics is 9th overall. They are currently 16th in total yards averaging 316.5 yards per game, 8th in rushing yards averaging 131.5 yards per game, and 21st in passing yards averaging 185.0 yards per game. On the defensive side of the ball the Chiefs are ranked 9th overall. This consists of a 15th rank in total yards allowed at 324.3 yards per game, 18th in rushing yards allowing 131.5 yards per game, and 14th in passing yards allowing 203.3 yards per game.

Alright, aside for what the big boys of sports have broken down for rankings on these two teams, who's going to win and how?

Arrowhead stadium is one of NFL's most difficult stadiums for an away team to play in. The fans are active, loud, and give a solid 12th man to thier Chiefs. Jacksonville will enter Arrowhead stadium this week for thier final game of the regular season to face a Kansas City team that is 5-2 at home. Looking to overcome some of their own issues on the road, the Jaguars have been a meger 2-5 in thier road games. As much as this game favors the home team, I'm not convinced the Chief are guaranteed any victory here by a long shot.

The Chief #18 run defense is going to have to face the #2 run offense in the league as they go up against the Jaguars. Fred Taylor(listed probable - Hamstring) is a very capable running back that has been averaging 5 yards per carry through the season, racking up 1120 yards and 5 touchdowns; However, Taylor is only the beginning of the Chiefs worries in the run game. Maurice Jones-Drew(listed probable - Knee) has been a fast rising rookie that is dominating in his run game. His average yards per carry is currently at 5.8 and he's managed to chalk up 12 touchdown for the Jacksonville offense this season. Combine these two running backs and turn them loose on a defense that is allowing an average of 121 yards per game and this could spell disaster for the Chiefs. The key to victory for the Jaguars lies with the run game. They need to manage the clock, stick to thier run game, and can't fall behind. If the Jaguars find themselves in a catch up situation they will be forcing thier #26 pass offense to overcome the #14 pass defense.

The Chiefs face an even bigger problem on thier offense. As much as Larry Johnson is considered a premier running back in the NFL, averaging 4.3 yards a carry with 14 touchdowns on the season, this matchup may be difficult for him as he faces the #3 rushing defense this week. Needing to establish a run game, L.J. and the Chiefs must do so against a defense that has only been allowing an average 86 rushing yards per game. If unable to run the ball, Trent Green will be forced to take to the air, something he's been having trouble with since his return. With Jacksonville ranked 11th against the pass they could easily find themselves creating problems for Trent Greens' air game.

All in all, I'm expecting a Jacksonville victory. Predicted final score 24-13 Jacksonville. Neither team makes the playoffs.

Week 17 ATS

It’s the final week of the regular season and the first numbers ATS are in, so let’s get them started.

Giants(-2.5) Vs Redskins – Giants are still holding on to playoff hopes. Take the Giants to win and give the points.

Steelers(+6) Vs Bengals – The Bengals may still be in the running for a playoff spot, and the Steelers may be out, but that won’t stop them from attempting to play the spoiler. Steelers cover the spread.

Lions(+13) Vs Cowboys – I was going to give the points, but on a second thought, I’m going to take the points. Cowboys will win, but I’m guessing by 10.

Browns(+4) Vs Texans – Neither team will make the playoffs, neither team will dominate the other. Close game within 3 points. Take the Browns, take the points.

Jaguars(+3) Vs Chiefs – Upsets all around in this game. Jaguars will eliminate the Chiefs from the playoffs only to miss out on the playoffs themselves. Jags, take the points.

Rams Vs Vikings(+2.5) – Vikings play to ruin what little chances the Rams have at a playoff season and succeed. Vikings, take the points.

Panthers Vs Saints – No line on this game right now. I’m taking the Saints with the straight up win.

Raiders(+13) Vs Jets – Raiders offense my be awful by High School standards, but their defense can still play…this is a low scoring game. Raiders cover spread.

Seahawks(+3.5) Vs Buccaneers – I see the Hawks winning this game, so to see them as the underdogs I have to say take the points.

Patriots(+3) Vs Titans – Titans are on the outside looking in, Patriots have their playoff spot. I see the Titans winning on a last second field goal to give them a one or two point lead. Patriots cover spread.

Bills Vs Ravens(+9.5) – Still fighting for home field in the playoffs, the Ravens will play hard at home. Take the Ravens, give the points.

Dolphins(+9) Vs Colts – After an embarrassing lose to Houston last week I can’t see the Colts getting more than a 5 point lead. Ronnie Brown will embarrass the Colts run defense, and Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas will minimize Peyton Mannings scoring.

Falcons Vs Eagles(7.5) – Eagles charge into the playoffs with the NFC East title. Taking the Eagles and giving the points.

49ers(+10.5) Vs Broncos – I’m all about a Broncos win this week, but I have to question a 10.5 point spread. I’m hoping the Broncos win by 20 points, but being more realistic…I’m going to say the 49ers cover.

Cardinals Vs Chargers(-14) – Chargers charge into the playoffs at full speed with a big victory at home. Take the Chargers and give all 14 of the points.

Packers(+3) Vs Bears – Bears have everything all wrapped up for them already in a neat little package. They’ll probably sit their starters and the Packers will steal away with the win. Packers, take the points.

And that wraps up this final regular seasons ATS picks.

Silver Dragons Week 17 Picks

It’s the final week of the regular season, Week 17! Some teams have their playoff positions all wrapped up, others have a playoff berth, but are still working with scenarios to their playoff position, and yet others are still hoping to hold on to a playoff spot or sneak into one. Teams in the running are in need of a win to better their seeding, and teams that have been eliminated have nothing to loss and the part of spoiler to gain. It’s bound to be a week of upsets and heart break.
Quickly recapping my stats to date, I went an unimpressive 8-8 in Week 16 and have now put my totals at 141 of 240 or 141-99 (.587). So let’s get started with Week 17.

Saturday, December 30, 2006

8:00pm
Washington Redskins(5-10) Vs New York Giants(7-8)
Giants hold onto hopes of a playoff berth
After the dominating defeat they suffered last week at the hands of New Orleans, the Giants still hold onto their hopes of a playoff spot. They need the win and they need to win big in hopes of winning the Strength-of-victory tiebreaker with Green Bay should they go on to win this week. Eli Manning needs to settle down into the pocket and complete his passes, Tiki Barber will get his yards as he tends to do, but he needs to punch them into the endzone. If Tiki falls short of the endzone, Brandon Jacobs needs to pick up the slack. The receivers Plaxico Burress and Jeremey Shockey must have big plays to show the dominance this star studded team should have been displaying all year.

Sunday, December 31, 2006

1:00pm
Dallas Cowboys(9-6) Vs Detroit Lions(2-13)
Cowboys bounce back with a win and hold on to their hopes
Looking like they were going to take the NFC East, the Cowboys find themselves in danger of falling into a wild card spot after their loss to Philadelphia. Even with the win here however, I think Philadelphia will win out and take the NFC East. Detroit is out, but don’t look to spoil anything as the Cowboys are in regardless of this outcome. Not wanting to go into the off season with injuries, and probably hoping for the first pick in the draft, Detroit will play, but no like wounded animals and the Cowboys will dominate.

1:00pm
Kansas City Chiefs(8-7) Vs Jacksonville Jaguars(8-7)
Jacksonville steals the Chiefs playoff hopes
Before I even hear it from the Chiefs fans, I do realize that this game is in Kansas City, and as a Broncos fan, I know how difficult it is to play in that stadium. Both these teams are fighting for an elusive playoff spot this week. Both teams need a win, but the Jaguars defense will rise to the occasion on this game. Trent Green hasn’t been getting it done, and Larry Johnson can’t do it all by himself. David Garrard will maintain a descent passing game while Maurice Jones-Drew goes off on the Kansas City defense showing the league that he is looking to have the starting position by next year.

1:00pm
New York Jets(9-6) Vs Oakland Raiders(2-13)
J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets!!!
I went against them last week and should have known better. Well inside the playoff picture, the Jets look to defeat the Oakland High Raiders. The Raiders on the other hand, are looking for that first round pick that will help them make the trip back to play caliber of Pro Football teams. Jet’s win and hold onto their wild card spot.

1:00pm
Tennessee Titans(8-7) Vs New England Patriots(11-4)
Titans take the victory in their hunt for a playoff berth
The Patriots have clinched the AFC East and have nothing to gain or loss in this matchup. The Titans on the other hand are on the outside looking in with a need for a win to even remain in the hopes. Played in Tennessee and fueled by some impressive wins this year, Vince Young and Travis Henry will both rack up the rushing yards. Young will even several passes to keep the defense of New England on their toes.

1:00pm
Cincinnati Bengals(8-7) Vs Pittsburgh Steelers(7-8)
Bengals win in hopes of a playoff spot
Steelers are eliminated and can dash all hopes of a Bengals post season, but it won’t happen. Playing at home, the Bengals will hold on to the win in hopes of getting back on the inside of the playoff race. The Steelers may not dash the Bengals playoff hopes, but after the win, the Bengals will still need help to make the playoffs. Hopes that will be crushed in this heartbreaking season.

1:00pm
Houston Texans(5-10) Vs Cleveland Browns(4-11)
Texans win at home
With no playoff hopes, and no spoiler possibilities this game looks to be one without interest. Mark this one up to the home team.

1:00pm
Minnesota Vikings(6-9) Vs St. Louis Rams(7-8)
Vikings crush the Rams playoff hopes
The Vikings have been eliminated while the Rams are on the outside looking in with a slim hold on a possible playoff spot. Agreed that the Vikings haven’t looked good over the last several weeks, and quarterback Tarvaris Jackson hasn’t shown starter qualities. But this is one of my somewhat upset picks, although I don’t see either team as a more dominating team this year.

1:00pm
New Orleans Saints(10-5) Vs Carolina Panthers(7-8)
Saints upset the Panthers hopes of a post season
Saints are in and have nothing to lose or gain at this point, but I don’t think they will be sitting out any starters. With that thought, Drew Brees will have a big game to finish out the regular season with the help of Marques Colston and Terrance Copper. Deuce McAllister will have a good game and Reggie Bush will continue to show everyone why he was the biggest talk of the draft…Houston is kicking themselves!!!

1:00pm
Tampa Bay Buccaneers(4-11) Vs Seattle Seahawks(8-7)
Seahawks finally break losing streak in last game
Seattle has clinched the NFC West, but has done so in poor fashion. Having dropped their last three straight, they limp into the playoffs looking to be a one-and-done team. Although this game has no playoff implications for the Hawks, they desperately need this win to get out of this funk before it’s lose and go home.

4:15pm
Denver Broncos(9-6) Vs San Francisco 49ers(6-9)
Broncos solidify their playoff position
Having stumbled in their last few games with Jake Plummer and then fought through some of the growing pains of Jay Cutler, the Broncos still hold their destiny in their own hands. A heart stopping win over Cincinnati last week has put Denver in a good position. Playing at home and currently looking at the playoffs from the inside. Denver looks to continue Jay Cutlers growth into their star quarterback with a victory to end the regular season. With the likes of Javon Walker, Rod Smith, Brandon Marshall, and Tony Scheffler, Jay Culter has an entourage of receivers to throw too. Back that up with the running of Tatum Bell and Mike Bell…The Broncos get it done.

4:15pm
Indianapolis Colts(11-4) Vs Miami Dolphins(6-9)
Colts win in hopes of clinching a first-round bye
By all intents and purposes I think the Colts should win this game at home, but I’d be lying if I said I felt confident in this win. After a humiliating loss to Houston, the Colts have proven to have many flaws. With the like of Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas on the Dolphins Defense, there is no guarantee that Peyton Manning will lead the Colts to a victory. However, playing at home and no doubt upset with their recent loss, I expect the Colts to play a tough game.

4:15pm
Philadelphia Eagles(9-6) Vs Atlanta Falcons(7-8)
Eagles clinch the NFC East with a victory
Jeff Garcia has been getting it done on the field and I had picked the Eagles to defeat the Cowboys this past Monday Night. I’ve been convinced they would make the run for their division title and I’m holding strong to that belief. Brian Westbrook will run down the Atlanta defense and Correll Buckhalter will smash threw for the short yardage plays and goal line situations. Donte’ Stallworth, and L.J. Smith will continue to be prime targets for Garcia.

4:15pm
San Diego Chargers(13-2) Vs Arizona Cardinals(5-10)
Chargers solidify their home field advantage
Chargers are hot and playing at home. They may have already clinched the AFC West and a first round bye, but Marty Schottenheimer knows how dominate the Chargers have been on their home field and looks to stay at home throughout the playoffs. Don’t expect to see any starters sitting in this game until the lead is comfortable enough to be sure of a win.

4:15pm
Baltimore Ravens(12-3) Vs Buffalo Bills(7-8)
Ravens wrap up their own home field advantage
Although their not undefeated at home like the Chargers, they do still dominate at home and look to keep that dominating factor alive in the playoffs. Still having something worth fighting for, the Ravens offense will need to put points on the board against the Bills defense, and the Ravens defense will most likely be a thorn in Buffalo’s side throughout the game.

Sunday Night Football

8:15pm
Chicago Bears(13-2) Vs Green Bay Packers(7-8)
Packers look to hold on to any playoff hopes
The Bears have it all wrapped up. Having Clinched the NFC North, first round bye, and home field throughout I would expect to see all the starters watching from the sidelines in this game. Stay healthy, stay safe the Bears will relax in this game and a more desperate Brett Favre and his Packers will steal away with a win and some playoff hopes.

And that wraps up the Week 17 picks. Last regular week of the season, but don’t worry, I’ll be continuing my picks through the Superbowl, so we still have four more weeks of sporting analysis.

All times are Eastern Standard Time.

Good Luck and have a Happy New Year!

Silver Dragons Week 16 Picks

Merry Christmas to everyone and welcome to the Week 16 Picks.

San Diego has clenched the AFC West and is looking to wrap up Homefield advantage through the playoffs. New England will look to clench the AFC East. Baltimore and Indianapolis have won thier division, but are neck and neck for the second bye-week slot and home field for at least one playoff game.

Chicago is sitting pretty having already sealed the deal with the NFC North division, home field advantage, and first round bye. Dallas has clenched a playoff berth, but is still trying to win the NFC East, Philadelphia is trying to steal it away. New Orleans has the NFC South division, but the NFC West is still open with Seattle hoping to break thier losing streak to hold thier position on top.

Last week my picks went 10-6, a slight backslide from the few weeks before it. My season totals are now 133 of 224 or 133-91 (.594). I'm still just below .600, but I'm looking to over come that hump this week. So lets get on with the Week 16 Picks.

  • Thursday Game

Green Bay Packers(6-8) Vs Minnesota Vikings(6-8)
Vikings Pillage a victory
Ok, usually in a closer match up such as this where both teams are 6-8 my first reaction is to take the home team, but the Packers are 2-5 at home this year and 5-5 against NFC opponents. Brett Favre has almost as many interceptions as TDs, and the Vikings defense is currently ranked #7. Favre’s turnovers will cost them a close game.

  • Saturday Game

Oakland Raiders(2-12) Vs Kansas City Chiefs(7-7)
Chiefs take the tomahawk to the Raiders
Let’s face it, the Raiders offense is just AWFUL. They are 0-5 in their division and will be 0-6 after the Chiefs walk off the field. The only factor that will keep Oakland in this game is their defense, which is still playing at the NFL level. The Chiefs, desperately trying to hold on to any playoff hopes that they might still have, will see Trent Green put up some modest numbers and Larry Johnson run in a touchdown. That will be enough to win.

  • Christmas Eve Early Games

Atlanta Falcons(7-7) VS Carolina Panthers(6-8)
Falcons add to Panthers losing streak
Panthers defense just isn’t stopping anyone and although DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo Williams are decent backs, Chris Weinke just can’t get it done. Michael Vick will return to the Falcons lineup this week, so will John Abraham. This will give the Falcons the little push they need to squeak out this victory.

Buffalo Bills(7-7) Vs Tennessee Titans(7-7)
Titans Top the Bills
After going on a win streak defeating teams the like of Philadelphia, NYG, Indy, and Jacksonville why wouldn’t the Titans defeat the Bills? Vince Young will have a performance like he did against the NYG and Houston. The Titan defense well get a turnover or two from J.P. Losman and repeat their performance over Jacksonville. Another close game, but the Titans prevail.

Cleveland Browns(4-10) Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers(3-11)
Browns buck Buccaneers
Both teams have been mathematically obliterated from any playoff hopes. Neither team needs to win or will be hurt by a loss. I’m going to give this game to the home team.

Detroit Lions(2-12) Vs Chicago Bears(12-2)
Bears maul the Lions
Two teams with the exact opposite record. This would be a good upset pick. The Bears have the division, have the bye week, and have the home field. Who’s to say they don’t slack off and sit their starters. Traveling to Detroit and with nothing more to gain or lose, an upset could be a possibility, but I doubt it.

Houston Texans(4-10) Vs Indianapolis Colts(11-3)
Colts wrangle the Texans
Colts have locked up their division, but they are still in a fight for home field and first round bye. So Peyton Manning and the Colts will go into Houston prepared to defeat David Carr and the Texans

Jacksonville Jaguars(8-6) Vs New England Patriots(10-4)
Jaguars Pounce on the Patriots
If a team has a winning record, the Jaguars win the match up. If the team has a losing record, the Jaguars lose the match up? Go figure. So Tom Brady and the Patriots have the winning record. Besides that, the Jaguars are 6-1 on their home field. David Garrad has a good game against the Patriots defense and even if Fred Taylor doesn’t get to return from aggravating his right hamstring, Maurice Jones-Drew has proven to be a capable running back.

New York Giants(7-7) Vs New Orleans Saints(9-5)
Saints go marching into New York
Giants are 3-4 at home this year, Saints are 5-2 on the road and 8-2 in the division. Drew Brees will return to form after a letdown game to the Skins. Deuce McAllister will mark another 100+ game, and Reggie Bush will again make his presence know on the field. Tiki Barber will continue to rack up yardage, but the touchdown run will go to Brandon Jacobs. Eli Manning and Plaxico Burress will have trouble connecting against the Saints Defense.

Pittsburgh Steelers(7-7) Vs Baltimore Ravens(11-3)
Raven steal the Steelers last glimmer of a playoff hope
Will Steve McNair be able to return from his hand injury this week? Or will Kyle Boller be the man behind center? Either way I see a Baltimore victory. Derrick Mason will be the touchdown receiver this week, and Jamal Lewis will bunch one in from short yardage, the rest will be the defense holding Ben Roethlisberger to minimal production

St. Louis Rams(6-8) Vs Washington Redskins(5-9)
Redskins give Rams a headache
Jason Campbell has been getting better, and has find Santana Moss and Chris Cooley deep. Ladell Betts has started to find a run that defenses are finding hard to stop, and the Redskins defense has discovered how to shut down an offense. This spells disaster for Marc Bulger and the Rams.

  • Christmas Eve Late Games

San Francisco 49ers(6-8) Vs Arizona Cardinals(4-10)
49ers send Cardinals on long flight home
Neither team impresses me in this game. Alex Smith has been able to toss the ball around a bit, but so has Matt Leinart. Frank Gore can run the ball, but so can Edgerrin James. Then there’s Antonio Bryant or Anquan Boldin, both receivers can make the plays down the field. Let’s just chalk this one up to the home team.

Denver Broncos(8-6) Vs Cincinnati Bengals(8-6)
Broncos upset the Bengals
I’m calling this an upset without seeing the spread first, but all I’ve heard is that the Bengals will win. To top it off, Javon Walker has a first degree separation in his shoulder. So how do I think the Broncos will win? Pure want too. Jay Cutler is starting to settle in more every week, and what an arm he has been displaying. Mike Shanahan is starting to let the Rookie throw the ball more, and Cutler found nine different receivers last week. That means the Rookie has got vision down the field, finding his second and third receivers. Denvers defense is going to get back to early season form and give the Bengals a repeat of last week.

Seattle Seahawks(8-6) Vs San Diego Chargers(12-2)
Chargers trample the Seahawks
Does anyone think otherwise? LaDainian Tomlinson isn’t going to slow down this year. He’s on fire. Maybe the Chargers get upset in the playoffs, but not in their last two games of the regular season…unless they sit everyone out. That won’t be this week however as the Chargers look to wrap up home field advantage for the playoffs.

  • Christmas Day Monday Night Football

Dallas Cowboys(9-5) Vs Philadelphia Eagles(8-6)
Eagles fly over the Cowboys
Everyone thought the Eagles season was over with the loss of Donovan McNabb, but Jeff Garcia has stepped into his place and the team has all risen to the occasion. Winning their final two games will give the Eagles the division title…I think they’ll get it. Tony Romo is in for a shock, and Terrell Owens will have another reason to spit. Eagles are going to defeat the Cowboys…and it won’t have anything to do with T.O., although I’m sure he’ll find a reason to bring attention to himself.

Miami Dolphins(6-8) Vs New York Jets(8-6)
Dolphins throw wrench into Jets playoff hopes
The Dolphins have served up a shocker to Chicago, Kansas City, and New England this year. Now Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Buffalo and shut down the Jets hopes of a post season. In this divisional rivalry, if Miami can’t go to the playoffs, they don’t want the Jets to go either.

And that concludes my week 16 picks.

Good Luck to everyone, Merry Christmas to you and yours. Or Happy Holidays if Christmas isn't your thing.

The Future of Denver: Jay Cutler

As a Broncos fan I could only hope that this is an insight of things to come. Denver finally broke it's losing streak, but it was against the Cardinals. Next week will be a more true test of whether Jay Cutler is settling in to the Quarterback position in Denver. He did look good however after tossing 21/31 for 261 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT. His completions were much better, he tossed a few more this week, and he racked up a few yards and a couple touchdowns. What I liked to see was the 54 yard toss he launched down the field to Javon Walker. WHAT AN ARM!!!

I think Broncos fans have something to be excited about. We're still in the running for the playoffs. After todays win we currently hold a wild card spot pending the outcome of the Chargers / Chiefs game that is currently on. I believe that if the Chiefs can pull off the upset tonight that the Broncos would be bumped back into the running. The Chiefs had the tie breaker with the Broncos the last I checked. Not that it would be the end of the world. Denvers destiny is still in thier own hands. Winning out thier last two games would insure them a spot in the playoffs because they would have to knock off the Bengals in Mile High next week. Taking the Bengals out would put Denver in regardless of the Chargers / Chiefs outcome tonight.

Whatever the outcome this year, Broncos Fans should be looking forward to the years ahead for Denver. The offense looks fantastic, on paper, for the future. Lots of Rookies and young players that have a lot of promise. Jay Cutler is the most noticable in the front, but Tony Scheffler at the Tight End position is looking great. To early to say for sure, he has the look of a great TE like Antonio Gates, Alge Crumpler, Jeremy Shockey, I could go on. Broncos fans have been excited about the off season pick up of Javon Walker, and he looks to be settling in well as a big play maker in Denver. The other rookie of note would be Brandon Marshall. If Cutler settles into a comfort zone in Denver he will have an arsenal of wide recievers to choose from.
Don't count Denver out this year however, it's still a possibility that they could make a run. Not only into the playoffs, but through them. There is still a lot of work to be done, and it might not happen, but the talent and the players are there. If it all comes together over the next two weeks, it could be possible.

Regardless of a playoff run this year or not, keep an eye on Jay Cutler and the Denver Broncos.

Silver Dragons Week 15 ATS

Last week I went 10-6 ATS. I'm hoping to improve on those numbers. Here's this weeks picks.

  • Thursday

49ers(+10) Vs Seahawks - I've picked the Seahawks to win SU, but +10 points? I'm gonna have to take the Niners to cover on this one.

  • Saturday

Cowboys(-3.5) Vs Falcons - Cowboys are coming off a humiliating loss, they'll come with their "A" game this week. Cowboys easily give the points.

  • Sunday

Jets(+3) Vs Vikings - J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets!!! Take the points.

Browns Vs Ravens(-11.5) - Hmm, I like the Ravens to win this one, but 11.5 is a lot of points...I'll go with the Ravens give the points.

Texans(+11.5) Vs Patriots - Patriots were favored to beat the Lions by 14 a couple of weeks ago and couldn't do it. Same plays out here. They win, but Texans cover.

Dolphins(+1) Vs Bills - Dolphins not only cover, but they upset...if you can call a one point spread an upset.

Steelers Vs Panthers(Pick) - currently no line on this game, so I'm taking the Panthers in a straight up win.

Redskins Vs Saints(-10) - Lot of big spreads this week. Can the Saints repeat what they did to the Cowboys this week? I think yes. Give the points.

Jaguars Vs Titans(+3.5) - This isn't just a cover, I'm smelling an upset here. I'll take the Titans to cover, but I'm calling for an upset.

Buccaneers(+14) Vs Bears - Oh the Bears will win, and probably by 10 or 11 points...but something is nagging me about 14. I don't think they do it. Bucs cover.

Lions(+5.5) Vs Packers - I'm feeling a last second field goal on this game...a tie breaker. Packers by 3. Lions cover.

Broncos(-3) Vs Cardinals - I want to say the Broncos go big here to break their lossing streak, but I'm seeing a 4-6 point game. Broncos, and give the points...barely.

Eagles(+6) Vs Giants - Both teams have started to play. Eagles without McNabb and the Giants getting their heads back into it. I see a two point game. Eagles cover.

Rams(+2.5) Vs Raiders - The Raiders are favored? Hmm, someone thinks the Raiders need a third win, but it ain't me. Rams take the points. Heck, Rams win.
  • Sunday Night Football

Chiefs(+9) Vs Chargers - Chargers have had some big wins, then some close wins. Last week was a big win, this week will be a close win. Chiefs cover.
  • Monday Night Football

Bengals(+3.5) Vs Colts - The Colts weakness has been well exposed. They can't stop the run, Rudi Johnson can run. A run game opens a pass game. Bengals upset Colts.

Comments, questions, disagreements...they're all welcome here. Tell me what you think.

Silver Dragons Week 15 Picks

Going into week 15, San Diego has clenched the division title in the AFC West guaranteeing them a spot in the playoffs. To top off their celebrations, Indianapolis got smoked by Jacksonville to vault San Diego into the #1 seed in the AFC. Chicago won on Monday night, having already won their division for a playoff spot, giving them the first-round bye. One more win and they will be guaranteed home field through the NFC Championship game.

Last week my picks went 11-5 again putting my season totals at 123 of 208 or 123 -85 (.591) bringing me within reaching distance of a .600 season if I can pull off another good week. So let’s get onto the Week 15 picks.

  • Thursday, Dec. 14

8:00pm
Seattle Seahawks(8-5) Vs San Francisco 49ers(5-8)
Seahawks seize victory
Seahawks have had a habit of losing on the road, but they are dominating on their home turf. 5-1 at home this year, their only home loss came to Minnesota in a game without Shaun Alexander and the very game that sent Matt Hasselbeck to the injury list. Well, Alexander and Hasselbeck have been back for a few weeks now, and they won’t be losing at home this week.

  • Saturday, Dec. 16

8:00pm
Atlanta Falcons(7-6) Vs Dallas Cowboys(8-5)
Cowboys bounce back
Bill Parcells feels humiliated after the stomping they received last week. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Cowboys in full pads running two-a-days for the rest of the week this week. The Cowboys will make a comeback this week and Tony Romo will have a big day.

  • Sunday, Dec. 17

1:00pm
Baltimore Ravens(10-3) Vs Cleveland Browns(4-9)
Ravens ravage the Browns
Ravens are 5-1 at home…of course, they’re 5-2 on the road, but really, they’re 5-1 at home. Their one home lose coming at the hands of Carolina. In the battle with San Diego for the #1 seed in the AFC, the Ravens won’t be letting a team like the Browns upset them at home.

Green Bay Packers(5-8) Vs Detroit Lions(2-11)
Packers send Lions packing
Two things to keep in mind. One, the Packers are the home team, and two, the Lions are probably eyeing the number one draft pick at this point. Give Brett Favre a big day this week end and the Packers take the win.

New England Patriots(9-4) Vs Houston Texans(4-9)
Patriots pound the Texans
After a shut out in Miami, Tom Brady and the Patriots return home to Foxboro and face the Texans. Sure the Texans have had moments when they’ve upset Jacksonville…twice, but I’m giving this one to the Patriots at home.

Tennessee Titans(6-7) Vs Jacksonville Jaguars(8-5)
Titans upset the Jaguars
In the last matchup the Titans lost big to Jacksonville. However, since then, they have upset Philadelphia, NYG, Indianapolis, and…well, they beat Houston…wouldn’t call that one an upset. Now they face Jacksonville again after the Jaguars have defeated Miami and absolutely humiliated Indianapolis. I’m going with a gut feeling on this one and callilng the upset. Titans win.

Buffalo Bills(6-7) Vs Miami Dolphins(6-7)
Dolphins splash up another victory
After a horrible start the Dolphins have gone 5 of 6 on their last games. Miami is hot, and the Bills…well, they’re not horrible, but they’re not hot. Miami’s Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas have been monsters on Defense. Taylor will be all over J.P. Losman and in his face all night.

Minnesota Vikings(6-7) Vs New York Jets(7-6)
J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets
I can’t help it, the more I say it, the more fun it becomes. The fact that Chester Taylor is still Questionable for this game also plays a big factor. Brad Johnson is a capable quarterback, but he isn’t a big play maker. Artose Pinner had a good game against Detroit…but we’re talking about Detroit. So everyone say it with me…J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets!!!

Carolina Panthers(6-7) Vs Pittsburgh Steelers(6-7)
Panthers win it.
I was a little indecisive on this game, but the wife says Carolina…soooo,…Carolina it is. Sure Pittsburgh has been on a little win streak, winning 4 of 5. However, the wins were a close one against New Orleans, twice against Cleveland, and one against Tampa. Chris Weinke may not be the best quarterback, but DeShaun Foster will be returning this week, DeAngelo Williams has been great, and between the two they should open up some lanes for Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson after establishing a solid run game.

Chicago Bears(11-2) Vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers(3-10)
Bears maul Buccaneers
Rex Grossman was actually able to contribute to the Bears victory over St. Louis in last weeks game, but it was Devin Hester with TWO hugh runbacks that set this game on fire. So with defense and special teams coming up big for the Bears, how can you pick against them at home playing against the Buccaneers? In fact, the Bears could easily win all their final games against Tampa, Detroit, and Green Bay…not that it matters for them at this point, they’ve already won their division and the first-round bye. One more win and they’ll be guaranteed home field as well.

New Orleans Saints(9-4) Vs Washington Redskins(4-9)
Who Da? Saints win!
Did the Saints just serve notice? They have every intension of making the playoffs, and with a performance like the one they displayed against the Cowboys…dare I say Superbowl? The Cowboys have been a solid team since the change to Tony Romo, but Drew Brees simply picked them apart with 384 yards and five TD passes! Deuce McAllister continues to run for 100+ yards and Reggie Bush takes in 100+ yards receiving. Who Da? Da tha Saints!

4:05pm
Arizona Cardinals(4-9) Vs Denver Broncos(7-6)
Broncos break losing streak
Jay Cutler started to show some poise in the third quarter of the matchup with San Diego, but that game just wasn’t meant to be for the Broncos. Cutler now knows what a butt whoopin in the NFL feels like. Been there, done that, time to start rising from the ashes. Tatum Bell has continued to be a dominate running back and the only running back this year to run for over 100+ yards against the San Diego defense on their home turf. He’s the second with 100+ for the season beside Larry Johnson in Kansas City. As soon as Cutler can start delivering the ball, Rod Smith and Javon Walker will be waiting, but hold the phones! Rookie Tight End Tony Scheffler and Rookie Wide Reciever Brandon Marshall show hugh promise for the Denver future! Go Broncos!!!

4:15pm
New York Giants(7-6) Vs Philadelphia Eagles(7-6)
Giants settle in for another win
A matchup of two 7-6 teams, Eagles have been rebuilding momentum under the arm of Jeff Garcia while the Giants have been the undisciplined team shows flashes of greatness only to fall to pieces in the following week. So this was by no means an easy pick. But I’m giving to the home teams this week on the difficult decisions, so I’ll stay with that trend. Giants pulled it together last week for a win over Carolina. Eli Manning Continues to hit Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey, while Tiki Barber continues to be…well, Tiki Barber. Tiki runs of the yards…Brandon Jacobs punches in the TD.

Oakland Raiders(2-11) Vs St. Louis Rams(5-8)
Rams defeat the Raiders
Rams have lost two in a row, and must now go on the road to face their next opponent in the “Black Hole”. The sound of that almost makes you want to pick an upset, but the only upset in this game is the amount of money being paid to the Raiders that might as well be playing at the High School level. Put ‘em down in Texas under the Friday Night Lights and chances are they’ll still have a losing season.

8:15pm
San Diego Chargers(11-2) Vs Kansas City Chiefs(7-6)
Chargers continue charging into the post-season
As much as Denvers defense contained LaDainian Tomlinson…they didn’t contain LaDainian Tomlinson. At this point, no one can contain LT. Kiss Kansas City goodbye, Chargers will send them packing.

  • Monday, Dec. 18

8:30pm
Indianapolis Colts(10-3) Vs Cincinnati Bengals(8-5)
Bengals upset Colts
Peyton Manning and the Colts have been exposed. Jacksonville tore them apart with Maurice Jones-Drew rattling off 166 yards on 15 carries for 2 TDs, Fred Taylor sprinting for 131 yards on 9 carries and a TD, even Alvin Pearman broke off 71 yards on 13 carries and a TD! If the Bengals send Rudi Johnson down the throat of the Colts he’ll have a field day! The Colts will be forced to honor the run, and Carson Palmer will have his pick of Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Who’s your Momma), and Chris Henry. Stick a fork in the Colts, if you got a run game, you can win the game.

That wraps up my picks for week 15. All thoughts, comments, and arguments are welcome.

Good Luck to everyone!

Silver Dragon

Week 14 Conclusion

I had a decent week in #14 at both straight up and against the spread. My Week 14 Straight up picks finished 11-5. My Week 14 Against the Spread picks finished 10-6.

Silver Dragons Week 14 ATS

Alright, 9-7 ATS last week. I wouldn't say that was great, but it's a winning percentage, so I'll take it. Let's see if I can't improve those stats this week.

Browns (+7.5) Vs Steelers - Steelers are giving too many points, thier not the Superbowl team they were last year. Browns will cover.

Ravens (+3) Vs Chiefs - I see an upset here, so of course I'll take the points and pick the Ravens.

Falcons (-3) Vs Buccaneers - Take Atlanta and give the points. I expect Michael Vick to lead the Falcons to a 7-point victory.

Vikings (+2.5) Vs Lions - the Lions almost pulled an upset last week against the Patriots. They used up all their good plays. Take the Vikings, take the points, take the upset.

Titans (+1) Vs Texans - Are you kidding? The Texans are favored? Take the Titans.

Giants Vs Panthers (-3) - Panthers will comeback from last week. Take the Panthers and give.

Colts (-2) Vs Jaguars - If the Jags can lose to the Texans and come back the following week to win, the Colts can lose to the Titans and come back to win.

Eagles (-1.5) Vs Redskins - Can the Eagles get a bit of a run going here? The Dragon says yes. Take the Eagles, give the points.

Raiders Vs Bengals (-11.5) - The Raiders have a good defense, but some how 11.5 points seems possible when referring to the Bengals offense. So I'll give the points.

Patriots Vs Dolphins (+3.5) - I smell an upset. The Patriots may have won last week, but they did it in poor form. Dolphins may have lost, but it happens. Expect a bounce back.

Packers (+5) Vs 49ers - Packers will cover.

Seahawks (-3.5) Vs Cardinals - Could be an upset...but I doubt it. Take the Hawks and give some points.

Bills Vs Jets (-4) - J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets!!!

Broncos (+7.5) Vs Chargers - As painful as it was, I picked against my beloved Broncos in my SU picks...so allow me this...I'm taking the Broncos to cover.

Saints (+7) Vs Cowboys - I've taken the Cowboys to win, but I'll take the Saints to cover. This will be a three-point game.

Bears (-7) Vs Rams - Take the Bears Defense alone and give the points.

And that covers my early picks this week. Maybe they change, maybe not. I'll check back in later in the week to see if the spreads have changed...which they probably will.

Silver Dragon

Silver Dragons Week 14 Picks

Week 14 is upon us and the playoffs are near. The playoff seeds are starting to shape up and Chicago is the first to clench. Will anyone else be able to clinch this week?

Quick recap of my stats. Last week I went 11-5 and increased my season numbers to 112 of 192 or 112-80 (.583) almost a hundreth closer to that .600 mark I'm tring to get back too. So let's get this week 14 underway.

  • Thursday Night
Pittsburgh Steelers(5-7) Vs Cleveland Browns(4-8)
Steelers sneak off with a win
Neither team looks to be playoff bound, so neither team can play the spoiler in this game. This is a good game to be on NFL Network…I can’t watch it, and I don’t care. Ben Roethlisberger goes off on the Browns defense…practice for next year.

  • Sunday Afternoon
Carolina Panthers(6-6) Vs New York Giants(6-6)
Panther defeat the Giants
Giants are still suffering thru injuries and issues. Both teams have the ability to be good. However, with Carolina being 4-2 at home…I’m going to have to give this one to the Panthers.

Cincinnati Bengals(7-5) Vs Oakland Raiders(2-10)
Bengals hold onto their wild card spot
The Raiders are completely and hopelessly out of the playoff race. There is no hope for them. So they could play the spoiler for Cincinnati and knock them out of their wild card spot, but they won’t. If you can’t beat Houston with -5 passing yards…nuff said.

Detroit Lions(2-10) Vs Minnesota Vikings(5-7)
Vikings plunder Detroit, sail off with a win
The Lions have lost four straight. It would almost be tempting to say they were due a win and take the upset here…but somehow I think they threw away that win they were due against New England last week. That was a game they coulda, shoulda, won…but didn’t! Vikings defense will smother Jon Kitna and hold Kevin Jones well under 100 yards.

Houston Texans(4-8) Vs Tennessee Titans(5-7)
Titans tee-off on Texas
Vince Young is actually starting to turn up the heat on the field. He’s averaging more per carry than Travis Henry and that’s not on five or six carries. Vince Young has 62 carries for 372 yards, averaging 6.0 yards per carry. David Carr on the other hand had negative -5 passing yards last week(32 yards passing, -37 yards in sacks)…and won…that’s was his wish upon a star for this year.

Jacksonville Jaguars(7-5) Vs Indianapolis Colts(10-2)
Colts bounce back from last weeks loss
After the Colts lost to the Titans last week…it’s almost hard to pick them to win this week…even with a 10-2 record! Peyton Manning may be one of the best Quarterbacks in the league, but the Colts team, as a whole, is slipping. If Manning wants his Super bowl ring, he better get it now.

Kansas City Chiefs(7-5) Vs Baltimore Ravens(9-3)
Ravens diminish the Chiefs playoff hopes
Ravens denied Cincinnati a high scoring game last week, but the Cincy D denied the Ravens even more and stole the win. That won’t be the case in Kansas City. True, Arrowhead Stadium is a tough place to play, but Baltimore will be on the top of this low scoring game.

Miami Dolphins(5-7) Vs New England Patriots(9-3)
Miami wins at home
This won’t hurt the Patriots playoff hopes, and maybe that’s why the Dolphins pull this one off. Home field advantage and the mentality of a wounded animal, Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas are going to make Tom Brady’s day a very long one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers(3-9) Vs Atlanta Falcons(6-6)
Falcons hang onto their playoff hopes by a thread
Not completely out yet, but not completely in control of their destiny the Falcons play to win and keep their fingers crossed that the rest of the league plays to their advantage. Michael Vick will continue to run like his life depends on it, because the Falcons playoff hopes do depend on it.

Washington Redskins(4-8) Vs Philadelphia Eagles(6-6)
Eagles win again
Jeff Garcia Vs Jason Campbell. Eagles upset the Panthers last week, they’ll be riding high on that win and take it into Washington. Eagles stay in the wild card race, even without Donovan McNabb.

  • Sunday Evening
Arizona Cardinals(3-9) Vs Seattle Seahawks(8-4)
Seattle clinches the NFC West with a win
Arizona managed to win last week! That means they have no hope of winning this week. There win quota has been reached for this year. Seattle will come off an big win in Denver and Shaun Alexander will run circles around Forrest Gump.

San Francisco 49ers(5-7) Vs Green Bay Packers(4-8)
Packers win
Just because. Packers are our of the playoff race, they’re going to take the 49ers with them…not that a 49er win would have been likely to get the Niners in the playoffs.

New York Jets(7-5) Vs Buffalo Bills(5-7)
J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets
And why not? They’ve won two in a row and currently hold a wild card slot. Chad Pennington has been doing well enough, and they absolutely destroyed Green Bay last week. Keep getting the ball out to Jerricho Cotchery, he’s been the receiver of choice for the Jets team. Come on…everyone say it with me…cause it’s fun…J.E.T.S., Jets, Jets, Jets.

San Diego Chargers(10-2) Vs Denver Broncos(7-5)
This pains me…Denver is falling apart. I can hope for a rebirth, I can hope for Jay Cutler to turn it on this week; I will be rooting for a win of course. But pay close attention to this historical moment. Denver’s season could very well end without a post season.
Chargers clench the AFC West

  • Sunday Night
Dallas Cowboys(8-4) Vs New Orleans Saints(8-4)
Cowboys leave Saints still fighting for their division
If the Saints lose this game, and Atlanta and Carolina win as I’ve predicted. Then the NFC South is going to be up for grabs with only one game to separate the Saints. Dallas will remain atop their division by at least two points.

  • Monday Night Football
St. Louis Rams(5-7) Vs Chicago Bears(10-2)
Bears continue to win in spite of Grossman
That should say it all. Rex Grossman has gone from the man in Chicago to the thorn in the Bears side. But what can they do? They’re the first to clinch a division, and Lovie Smith has every intention of riding this season out with Grossman. Bears defense better not slack off now…Defense…your our only hope.

So that concludes my picks to week 14. Thoughts? Comments? Arguements? That's what this thread is for.
